Synopsis and Treatment for Pop Promo

Synopsis-

Narrative-

One half one hand held video footage, tour style, black and white, amateur, rough, sketchy. Boys being boys, having fun, having a lark, practicing, rehearsals, driving around, chilling out.

Second half- the more professional side of the video, with a story line. Smooth shots with the cameras set up properly. Standing in the street, morning, afternoon, evening, goes through the day, people rushing past them. Includes footage of them being less serious to a more professional outcome nearing the end of the video, which finalizes with their gig.

Mis en scene-

1st Part

In black and white because they need to be more attractive, it makes the footage look more gritty and most videos in the hardcore genre have been put into black and white so it’s like a characteristic, They mostly all hang out at jacks house, or in his garden, or when they practice in his playroom, they have practice Thursday and Sunday. When they have a mess around it usually includes Xbox, beer, Ade’s car McDonalds, joking around, and food, messing about with their instruments.

Stop video half way through and have a zoom or footage of Jamie, saying something stupid, then music starts again.

Costume- Dress how they usually do, and look the same as the usually do.

2nd part-

Set it Ipswich town, mainly the high street, including late night Christmas shopping, going to use the natural light, and it will be brighter. People rushing past them, trying to symbolize that this band ‘ Have no time for anyone’. Also they’ll be trying to stand out compared generic other bands.

Costume- More groomed, smarted attire, more professional apparel.

Shirt/t-shirt, trainers, jeans

Cinematography-

Introduction:

Standing on a wall, with clown masks. Just before they hit the floor, close up of all 4 members heads, so a mid shot of all of them. They will be wearing their recently made promotional T-shirts with the band logo on the front which also features on their current EP.

Part 1- Documentary

Because it is hand held first there’s going to be plenty of mid shots and close ups of everyone in the band, and the band. Filming from all angles, and getting all the footage we can. So we aren’t focusing too much on what type of shots when it comes to the Tour Video Fish eye lens may be used.

Part 2-Gig

We’re getting the band to do a live performance for us, in one of the band members, Jack’ house. We may have to re record 4 times over making sure we get clear views of the band and each member playing their instrument. Just to get smooth flowing shots. We want these shots to be neat so the band and us have a professional look.

Part 3-Studio

Street Spirit by Radio Head have a pop promo, which we viewed in class. One of the parts from the video has many shots of the lead singer, with different lighting and fading in and out from his face, while singing. He’s moving across different parts of the screen and its blacked out blind him only to show a clear outline of his face. These shots must flow well, and be soft focus, but still edgy in other shots. We’ll do this in the studio, with the leader singer, and may include the others.

Editing-

Choppy rough and edgy shots, not particularly smooth. Black and white, gritty effects.
