Planning and deisgn for cd digipack

We have had an induction on Photoshop and to be fair, a very short one. It's ridiculously hard to use, but I have managed to work around it.

Following a class discussion, I had a few ideas about what our DigiPak should contain. As a class we agreed the DigiPak/CD Covers should contain:
  • Band, Song and Record Label logos
  • Titles - Band, song/album name
  • Track listing
  • Copyright Protection logos and information (©, ®, ™)
  • Barcode & Price
  • DVD details - age certification or 'Parental Advisory: Explicit Content' label
  • Pictures - front, back, middle (inside and outside)
  • 4-Sided with 2 Spines- 2 pics outside (front/back covers), possibly 2 inside
  • 6-Sided with 3 Spines- 3 pics outside (front, middle, back covers), 2 inside, with Production pics or a "Production & Artwork" booklet
  • Collector items
  • Competition entry forms
  • Limited Edition - 'Exclusive DVD included', 'Bonus tracks', or 'uncut version'.
Then, as a class, we also discussed the Contents and Features to be included on the DVD in the DigiPak, depending on whether we had a DVD in the DigiPak or not. We agreed the DVD should showcase the artist.

We have used a 4 piece digipack template, with the inside cover where the CD sits, and another picture to the left of it, and of course the front and back cover.

While being at the bands house we had a chance to take a few pictures of them, and a member of the band has a little brother who also took pictures. We used the pictures of the band practicing in the cellar, and one just against a wall.

Initially the picture on the front is just a silhouette of the band, and I think is brilliant, because it's simple yet effective, instead of overloading the album cover otherwise, it's a good portrayal of the album name, and the way the band would like to be seen.
The back cover runs along the same theme with a black background, keeping it simple. The font is all the same, and grey in colour. With this we have added a bar code, copyright symbol, and track listing.

"Insert Picture"

This is the final copy of what i have done and features the front and back cover, the back of which I've kept quite simple and dark because I think it has all the characteristics of the band. As for the inside, where the CD goes, is a personal picture one of the band members has drawn on paint and shows the lighter side of the band, just being friends, and having a laugh.
Also on the inside is a picture of the band in performance which is quite a nice picture, and I have edited it to the best my possible standard for Photoshop...which is quite poor to be fair.
